A PPE gate that opens only when every check passes

At PepsiCo, Nara runs an automatic PPE gate. It checks with AI vision that each person entering the production area wears the required PPE, combines this with the metal detector’s result, and opens the gate only when everything is compliant. Supervisors are alerted to violations, and all checks are logged on a dashboard.

Challenge

Food production areas have strict hygiene and safety rules. Checking PPE by hand at the entrance is slow and inconsistent, and makes it hard to prove compliance in audits. The PPE check and the metal detector were separate, with no single record.

Solution

An automated entry gate controlled by Nara. Cameras detect the person and each required PPE item, and Nara reads the metal detector’s result. If PPE is correct and no metal is detected, Nara opens the gate. If not, the gate stays locked, a local alert shows the person what is wrong, and the supervisor is notified. Results from all sources are combined on a dashboard for monitoring and audits.

How it works

  1. 01inputCamera and metal detector at the entry
  2. 02processPerson and PPE detection, combined with the metal detector result
  3. 03actionOpen the gate, or keep it locked with a local alert and a supervisor notification; log to the dashboard

Results

  • Gate access depends on verified PPE compliance
  • PPE and metal detector results in one record for audits
